Custom builds

If the platform doesn’t do it yet, we build it.

TruLens covers most food businesses out of the box. But no two operations are identical, and we’d rather build around your workflow than force you into ours. When you need something the platform doesn’t have, we scope it, quote it, and build it into your setup.

Add-ons on any plan

Add custom features to whatever plan you’re on

Custom work is a paid add-on on top of your existing subscription, on any tier — you could be on Retail Starter at £99/month and still add the bespoke feature you need. Add up to three custom features as add-ons to your current plan; beyond three, your setup moves onto a full custom build plan. Either way there’s no set price — we quote it once you’ve told us what you need.

Real examples

Custom work we’ve shipped

Anonymised, but real. This is the kind of thing we build when the platform alone isn’t enough.

Point of sale

A point of sale, built from scratch

One client needed to take orders and payments in store, but nothing on the market linked their till to their stock. So we built them one. A POS showing their full menu with images, staff tap what the customer orders, payment goes through their card reader, and every sale lands straight in TruLens. Stock, cost and margin update the moment the card is tapped. No end-of-day exports, no double entry.

Connectivity

A till that survives the internet going down

Another client operates on a street where the broadband regularly fails. A dropped connection meant a till that couldn’t trade. We installed a backup router running on a mobile SIM: when the wifi drops, their devices switch over automatically and keep trading without staff noticing anything happened. Custom work isn’t only software. Sometimes it’s making sure the software never stops.

How it works

From idea to shipped, priced up front

No surprises: we scope it, quote it, and only start building once you’ve agreed the cost and timeline.

1

Tell us what you need

A workflow, an integration, a report, a piece of kit, a whole tool. Describe it in plain terms.

2

We scope it together

We’ll ask questions, map it against what the platform already does, and tell you honestly if an existing feature covers it.

3

You get a fixed quote

Custom work is priced on scope. No build starts until you’ve agreed the cost and timeline.

4

It becomes part of your TruLens

Custom builds run inside your account and feed the same live data as everything else.

What counts as custom

If it’s not in the platform yet, it’s probably a custom build

  • Bespoke POS or ordering screens
  • Integrations with hardware or software we don’t yet support
  • Network and connectivity failover so you never stop trading
  • Custom reports and exports
  • Workflows specific to how your kitchen or warehouse runs
Straight talk: custom development takes real engineering time, so it’s always priced on scope — a paid add-on on your existing plan, or a full custom build plan once you go past three features. There are no set prices, so we quote it once you’ve described what you need, and we’ll always tell you if there’s a cheaper way to get the same result with what’s already built.
